Boxcars
Freight cars present hazards primarily from their weight and what they carry. There are several types of freight cars, and each type can potentially carry hazardous materials.
Boxcars transport commodities like automobile parts, electronics, grocery products, appliances, and some bulk materials. Hazardous materials may be present in boxcars in boxes, bottles, drums or intermediate bulk containers. The major hazards from boxcars are usually shifting of cargo during a derailment and the potential of large, unstable loads. The doors may be hard to open and present a crushing hazard if they are damaged.
