Rail incidents could be compounded by the presence of hazardous materials. Of course, all hazardous materials pose certain risks on their own, and trains may transport a number of different hazardous materials.
CSX can help you determine the presence of hazardous materials at an incident when you call the CSX Public Safety Coordination Center at 1-800-232-0144. You can also look for placards and review the rail shipping papers. Container shapes may also indicate the presence of hazardous materials.
